Arizona soccer game against Nebraska ends in a draw

Arizona went into the Nebraska game undefeated this season. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after two long halves. The goal scored against Arizona was a result of a hard cross that hit off of an Arizona defender.

The goal was created by Maddy Koleno who beat multiple defenders and tapped the ball to Sami Baytosh who was at the top of the 18-yard box. Baytosh then kicked the ball into the net with her right foot just missing the keeper’s hands. Baytosh is a freshman, scoring her first collegiate goal.

After this goal, Arizona’s mindset changed and they became hungry for more. Arizona had multiple chances on Nebraska’s goal but nothing was successful. Arizona had a great chance at getting another goal when Madison Goerlinger received the ball from a corner kick and she headed it just above the goal.

Arizona maintained a majority of the possession leading to another chance on goal. Ella Hatteberg launched a ball to the left side of the box, where Baytosh was waiting, and took a shot on the goal. Unfortunately, a Nebraska defender deflected the shot on the line.

Arizona continued to put the pressure on but remained unlucky. There were multiple fouls throughout the game and Arizona goalie Hope Hisey had four saves. As a result, the game ended in a tie 1-1. Arizona’s next game is away at Grand Canyon University on September 1st.
