Harding Men’s Soccer Falls 2-0 to Union in Season Opener

SEARCY – Union scored twice in a seven-minute span of the second half to defeat Harding men’s soccer 2-0 Thursday at the Stevens Soccer Complex. It was the first game of the season for both teams.

Union (1-0-0), a member of the Gulf South Conference located in Jackson, Tennessee, scored first in the 76th minute. The Bulldogs worked the ball across the top of the box before Kenny Nitzche scored on a shot to the lower left side of the goal. Alexander Lapkalo and Ostian Bowen had the assists.

In the 83rd minute, two quick passes up the center of the field freed Bowen, and he scored to the lower left side with assists from Stan De Vries and Nitzche.

Union held a 21-7 shot advantage, and Botond Nemeth made three saves to record the shutout.

Harding (0-1-0) had three shots on goal, two coming from Stefano Silva. Bison goalkeeper Jared Nitz made seven saves.

Harding will be back in action at home Saturday at 5 pm against Christian Brothers, also a member of the Gulf South Conference.
