The 2022 Gord Brown Memorial Golf Tournament held on Wednesday, Aug. 17 raised a total of $186,367 for the United Way Leeds & Grenvile and the YMCA of Eastern Ontario, it was announced on Thursday. It was the second edition of the tournament created in honor of the long-time Leeds-Grenville-area MP who died suddenly at his Parliament Hill office in 2018 at the age of 57.

“Gord really set a standard of care and we are thankful for the Brown family’s trust in us to utilize the funds to help sustain important local programs and services for those who most need them,” Trish Buote, United Way executive director, stated in a news release.

The annual Hockey Night in Leeds Grenville events hosted by Brown raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the local United Way.

This year’s memorial tournament at Smuggler’s Glen featured appearances by Toronto Maple Leaf greats Darryl Sittler and Rick Vaive.

“Darryl and Rick added to people’s enjoyment of the day and their participation helped to raise money for the Y’s financial assistance program,” stated Rob Adams, YMCA of Eastern Ontario CEO.

“We were delighted to collaborate with the YMCA of Eastern Ontario on the event and welcome back so many volunteers, sponsors and golfers who truly care about our communities,” Buote added.

The first Gord Brown Memorial was held in 2019 and raised about $85,000.
