Memorial golf fundraiser to benefit JPII Collegiate jr. golf program

“[Claudette] was an avid golfer. She and her husband, Doug, raised all four of their children to love the game of golf from when they were small children,” Jennifer said. “Claudette frequently attended Ladies’ Nights at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club, so I coordinated the Claudette Whyte Memorial Ladies Night. After she passed away, we wanted to do something to memorialize her, remember her, but not in a sad way. She always went to Ladies Nights and always had so much fun. We thought, what a perfect way to remember her.”

Jennifer said the family also wanted to do something to help a cause Claudette would support. That’s why they chose to donate the funds to the John Paul II Collegiate junior golf teams.

“The junior teams at John Paul II Collegiate will have an opportunity to have more one-on-one coaching and more mentoring, outside of what they are already doing,” Jennifer said. “And hopefully with these funds, they will even be able to travel, maybe,” and experience more golfing as well.

The memorial fundraiser included nine holes of golf, one of Claudette’s favorite Ukrainian-themed meals with sausage and perogies, a raffle table with over $3,000 worth of prizes, and a challenge game of golf on the putting green.

Since this year’s event was sold-out, with close to 50 ladies on the waiting list, Jennifer said the family might try an even bigger event next year.

They are thinking about possibly holding a ladies’ scramble golf tournament fundraiser in 2023 to raise more funds for a worthy cause.

“So many of Claudette’s friends from the local area and from far away reached out, businesses supported the event and overall it was a great cause in memory of a person who impacted so many lives,” Jennifer said.
