The Managing Director of TajBank Ltd, Mr Hamid Joda, says the bank is set to launch a digital banking application to attract more customers to its platforms as it seeks to grow its operation nationwide.
He disclosed this in Abuja yesterday during a courtesy visit to the bank’s headquarters by the management of Media Trust Group.
He said: “We’re launching our digital bank; it’s the first of its kind in Nigeria and it was developed locally by some young Nigerians. The features we have on it can compete with any other digital bank in the world. We’re taking it to the public hopefully in September or October as we’re waiting for some regulatory approvals. The digital bank is mainly for young people to come on board and we need the media to tell the story.”
Joda said the bank had recorded some feats in the Nigerian market despite the disruption caused by COVID-19
“2019 was a tough year as we faced the COVID-19 challenge. For a startup, it was an extremely difficult year, but thanks to God, we were able to surmount the challenges and we broke even in our 8 months of existence. Apart from that, we were able to wipe up operation expenses in our first year of business and we recorded profit in the first year also which is quite unusual in the banking sector.”
He also said the bank was able to increase its balance sheet from N50bn to N140bn. He disclosed that the bank would soon launch the N100bn SUKUK programme.
Group Chief Executive Officer, Media Trust Group, Mounir Haliru Gwarzo, said the company was ready to partner with the bank to promote its activities.
