Mobile data not working properly? Quick tips to fix the issue and boost internet speed

Is mobile data not working on your device? While Jio, Airtel and Vi are gearing up to launch 5G services in India, there are areas where 4G or even 3G doesn’t work properly. If you are also facing network issues on your mobile phone, turn off the mobile data and enable it once again. That’s the simplest way to fix data not working issue.

Now, if that’s also not helping, here are a few quick fixes you can try out to fix the issue and boost the internet speed.

Turn on the Airplane mode

This is one of the simplest ways to boost mobile data speed in case of a slow connection. You can simply turn on the Airplane mode and then turn it off after a few seconds. This process will help you quickly reset the mobile network and boost your internet connection.

Set Mobile Network to Auto

The mobile data networks provide three or fewer network options based on the SIM that are: 2G, 3G and 4G. In some cases, a 4G network might be present but not strong enough to provide good speed and a 2G/3G network might provide better speed. Go to the “Mobile Data” section in Settings and switch to 2G/3G/4G Auto. This setting will automatically figure out the best available network and switch to the same one. This will boost the data speed.

Restart your phone

Now, that’s what most of us do. Isn’t it? Restarting the device forces all the system processes including the networking processes to restart. This fixes all network-related issues or settings that might be hindering the mobile data.

Clean the SIM card once

Sometimes the SIM card collects dust while sitting in its port and we should take it out and clean it with a cloth and insert it back from time to time to maintain good mobile data connectivity.

Reset the APN

Open the Settings on the device and go to Network settings.

Click on your Network provider’s name.

Check for the ‘Access Point Names’ option and click on it.

From the three dotted icons in the upper right corner select the ‘Reset Access Points Option’.

Restart the device and test the mobile data.

Reset the Network Settings

Just like factory resetting or formatting the entire device, many devices offer the option to reset the network settings. To do so: Go to Settings and Backup and Reset menu. Next, check for the Reset Network Settings option and test the mobile data.

Check Mobile Data limit

Go to the Network settings and check for Data Usage. There would be a data limit option, either disable it or set the limit per month as per your choice.

Check the SIM card by inserting it into another device

In some cases, the SIM might not work on a particular device and the mobile data would work smoothly on a different device. If this is the case, try factory resetting the device or take it to the service center for it to be diagnosed.

Once you have tried a few of these ways, verify if the internet speed is fast enough. Now, to do that you can simply play music or video on YouTube, or run a game or GPS applications like Google Maps. Another way to check the internet speed is by checking a speed test website like Ookla, Meteor, SpeedTest Master. There are many others available out there.
