NBA Rumors: Carmelo Anthony has recently been linked to the Brooklyn Nets, who would be an addition to their revamped supporting cast.
If one thing has been made clear in the Kevin Durant saga, it’s that the Brooklyn Nets seem intent on operating as if they’re going to run it back this season. The Nets haven’t gotten the trade offers that they expected for Durant and they don’t want to lose him for pennies on the dollar.
Instead of going down that road, the Nets are going to continue to play this game of chicken with Durant. And they’re hoping that they win and they’re able to run it back at least for one more season. It’s easy to see why they’d want to do that.
On paper, the Nets have one of the most talented rosters in the league and should be better than last season. Since last year’s NBA Trade Deadline, the Nets have acquired Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Royce O’Neale, and TJ Warren.
And there’s still time for the Nets to make even more additions, perhaps a veteran such as Carmelo Anthony. He’s still a free agent and has recently been linked to the Nets as a player who can help round out the roster.
Melo has been a really good role player for the past three years of his career – two with the Portland Trail Blazers and one for the Los Angeles Lakers.
he’s proven that he’s at a point in his career where he’s willing – and thriving – in bench roles. Perhaps he could embrace such a role again for a team like the Nets, who could be looking to round out their roster with veterans.
Melo would fit the bill with how the Nets have rounded out the roster in recent years. Of course, nothing has materialized between the two teams. And a big reason for that could be the fact that there is still much to be settled between the Nets and Durant.
Brooklyn is one of the most interesting teams heading into the 2022-23 NBA season. Even more so if they don’t make a move before the training camp begins.
Training camps are roughly a month away from opening and it doesn’t seem as if the Nets have anything close to a resolution.
Eventually, the Nets are going to have to settle this. For better or worse, there will be another shoe to drop. Brooklyn is hoping that Durant and Kyrie are back this season. And if they are, there’s at least a chance Melo could follow.
