U Mobile has revamped its postpaid plans with its new “Unbeatable” lineup. Instead of introducing yet another “unlimited data” plan, the orange telco is taking a more honest approach by offering loads of high-speed data up to 1000GB and it costs less than RM100 per month.
U Mobile currently has three postpaid plans which start from RM38/month. The base U Postpaid 38 was introduced earlier this year which offers 30GB of high-speed data and unlimited calls within Malaysia. If you need more data, there’s U Postpaid 68 which offers 100GB of data for RM68/month and U Postpaid 98 which comes with a whopping 1000GB of data for RM98/month. Domestic calls within Malaysia are also offered for free on the two new plans.
As usual, U Mobile says the plans are 5G ready. This means you will get to use the same data quota for a faster 5G experience once U Mobile settles its commercial agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad.
Free 15GB data roaming and incoming calls
The Postpaid 68 and 98 plans also come with free 15GB of global data roaming which you can use in 63 countries. This includes Australia, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, France, Italy, United States and United Kingdom. That’s more quota and more supported countries than Digi’s Roam Like Home for postpaid. In addition, the two postpaid plans also let you answer voice calls without expensive roaming charges while traveling to the listed 63 countries.
Hotspot limited to 5GB per month
Typically, plans with high-speed data quota should be free from usage restrictions, however, there’s just one extra limitation with U Mobile’s new postpaid plans. While the data for these new plans are generous, do note there’s a 5GB hotspot quota per month as mentioned in their FAQ. This means if you get their 100GB or 1000GB postpaid plan, that data quota is strictly for your mobile device.
The new hotspot limit was recently introduced on the Postpaid 38 plan with effect from August 17th. If you need more data for hotspot, U Mobile is offering a hotspot booster at RM5 for 5GB per billing cycle. You can also add on extra data for your mobile device at RM10 for 10GB per billing cycle.
Add additional lines at RM38/month
If you need additional lines for your family members, U Postpaid 98 plans can add U FamilyShare lines at RM38/month each. The plans will share data from the same 1,000GB quota and it still comes with unlimited voice calls for domestic use.
Interestingly, there is no mention of hotspot quota for the U FamilyShare plan, however, any purchased data booster or hotspot booster can be shared between the main and supplementary line. The plan table also mentions free Global Roaming of 15GB but there’s no mention of it being standalone or shared from the main principal line.
According to U Mobile, a single U Postpaid 98 account can sign up for a maximum of 6 supplementary lines.
[ UPDATE 18/08/2022 20:15 ] U Mobile has confirmed that its U FamilyShare supplementary line does not include hotspot and free data roaming.
Device bundles on installments available with U Postpaid 98
If you need a device, you can own a new smartphone with 0% interest installment over 24 months with its U PayLater offering. This installment option is only available for U Postpaid 98. Some of the devices on offer include a Galaxy S22 Ultra from RM192/month, iPhone 13 from RM125/month and Honor Magic 4 Pro from RM97/month.
Customers on U Postpaid 68 can also get a new phone with the plan on U SaveMore. This is essentially the traditional device contract plan where you’ll get to buy a phone at a discount but it requires a hefty upfront payment. To learn more, you can check out U Mobile’s postpaid page.
