NBA All-Star Weekend is an opportunity for the league to showcase its brightest and best stars.
The weekend has brought us many iconic basketball moments throughout the years, from Michael Jordan taking off from the free throw line in 1988 and Magic Johnson’s memorable 1992 All-Star Game MVP performance, right through to Vince Carter setting a standard for the dunk competition that will likely never be beaten.
Not to mention the late, great Kobe Bryant’s four All-Star Game MVPs, tying him with Bob Pettit for the most ever.
NBA All-Star Weekend is also a chance for players to take some time off from the grind of the regular season and just have fun with their contemporaries.
The NBA has done a great job of rotating the hosting duties to cities across the US throughout the years. The first All-Star Game was held at the old Boston Garden in 1951 while the most recent one was played in Cleveland.

The 2023 NBA All-Star Game will take place at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
This will mark the 30th anniversary of the 1993 NBA All-Star Game played in Salt Lake City.

NBA All-Star on-court events will tip off on Friday, Feb. 17 and run through Sunday, Feb. 19.
As is the custom with All-Star Weekends, which are geared heavily towards the fan experience, there will also be events held at venues throughout the city, including the Salt Palace Convention Center and Huntsman Center on the University of Utah campus.
Future NBA All-Star Game locations
The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will take place in Indianapolis from Feb. 16-18, 2024.
Indianapolis was originally set to host the 2021 NBA All-Star Game. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was rescheduled to 2024.
“While we are disappointed that the NBA All-Star Game will not take place in Indianapolis in 2021, we are looking forward to the Pacers and the city hosting the game and surrounding events in 2024,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said at the time.
The location for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game has not been announced yet, but it has been reported that the Boston Celtics will “take steps” to ensure they receive their first All-Star Weekend since 1964.
Since then, every franchise in the Eastern Conference has hosted the event at least once.
