‘Access to state-of-the-art equipment has been an important component for us to recruit new radiologists,’ says Dr. Michael Loreto, and ‘our 11-year-old MRI, after performing more than 72,000 scans, was due for an upgrade.’
CALLANDER, Ont. — Tammy Morison, President & CEO of the North Bay Regional Health Center Foundation had set a fundraising goal of $50,000 for the Osprey Links Charity Golf Gala but the generosity of the participants pushed the bar even higher.
The 24th annual golf event, presented by OneLife Wealth Management, raised more than $60,100 for the MRI Upgrade Project. Over the past 23 years, this tournament has raised more than $470,000 towards our community’s greatest medical equipment needs at NBRHC.
Dr. Michael Loreto, an NBRHC radiologist, shared his gratitude for the incredible history of generous community support for diagnostic imaging.
“Access to state-of-the-art equipment has been an important component for us to recruit new radiologists. In the last 12 years, there have been four new radiologists recruited to serve our community, including myself,” Loreto shared. “Technology typically only lasts 10 years, which is a long time when you compare it to how many renditions of cell phones we have personally cycled through. Understandably, our 11-year-old MRI, after performing more than 72,000 scans, was due for an upgrade.”
Honorary Tournament Co-Chair, Michael Harris, former Premier of Ontario said, “We started the tournament to support important causes in our community and it has raised more than $1 million. The health care needs of the people in the region have always been one of our top priorities.”

Bradley Minogue, the President of Osprey Links Golf Course highlighted the support of participants and sponsors, using the time-honoured traditions of friendship, camaraderie and a round of golf for a community cause.
“My family always looks forward to this tournament. My dad would be proud of today’s turnout and to see so many of you here, supporting a cause that is close to our hearts. For us, it’s a privilege to have an impact on a cause that everyone in our community benefits from, access to excellent health care.”
Platinum sponsor, OneLife Wealth Management’s Sylvain Côté and Shawn Flindall helped launch the Osprey Links Charity Golf Gala.
“Our hospital takes care of us. Our commitment is to our community, families, and businesses. From family doctors to specialists — our community attracts medical professionals with [our] local lifestyle —and with the availability of advanced medical equipment. We feel fortunate to be here today to demonstrate our commitment and support. We’re honored to do our part to inspire others,” they said.
Morison was humbled by the support. “With the proceeds from today’s tournament, our community substantially funded the MRI upgrade with $1.2 million towards the $1.7 million project. Health care is truly a partnership between the government, hospital and community. Together we were able to ensure our citizens have access to the MRI scans they need, locally.”
