Police charge man over public order incident after soccer match – Leichhardt

A man has been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged public order incident following a soccer match in Sydney’s Inner West last month.

About 7.30pm on Sunday 31 July 2022, police were called to a sports field on Mary Street, Leichhardt, after reports of a brawl at the conclusion of a soccer match.

Upon the arrival of officers from the Leichhardt Police Area Command and the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), the crowd began to disperse. No injuries were reported.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident was begun under Strike Force Bramhall.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at a home in Northmead about 9am yesterday (Thursday 18 August 2022).

Police seized items relevant to the investigation.

A 20-year-old man who resides at the home was arrested and taken to Merrylands Police Station.

He was charged with riot and possession of prohibited drugs. The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 7 September 2022.

Investigations under Strike Force Bramhall continue.
