Women’s Soccer Opens Regular Season Against Jacksonville

CONWAY, SC – After finishing up a convincing preseason performance, the Coastal Carolina women’s soccer program now sets its sights on regular-season play as the Chanticleers welcome Jacksonville to the CCU Soccer Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 20.

Coastal Carolina out-scored its preseason opponents Winthrop and High Point by a score of 6-2. The Chants produced a 4-1 win over Winthrop and finished their exhibition slate with a 2-1 win over High Point.

Senior Megan Brouse scored the first two goals for the Chanticleers in the preseason, both coming against Winthrop. Junior Casey O’Connor also tallied a goal against the Eagles to kick off the season.

Freshman Julia Ziegenfuss notched two goals of her own, her first coming against Winthrop before tallying her second against High Point. Junior Ella Schad also recorded a goal for the Chants against High Point.

SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS

  • After finishing the 2021 season 7-8-3 overall and 2-6-1 in ASUN play, the Dolphins were picked to finish 10th in the 2022 ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll and received 81 points.
  • The Dolphins Selma Fohrer and Eden Skyers return for their sophomore season. The pair marked the first time since 2018 that Jacksonville has had a duo named to the all-freshman team. Notably, Skyers also picked up ASUN All-Conference second-team honors.
  • Jacksonville women’s soccer brought back 23 returners and added 13 new players who are either freshman or transfer.
