The NBA is a league of star players making millions and in recent times with more financial literacy, growing that wealth to even greater proportions. Just look at Shaquille O’Neal who has a huge portfolio of business ventures that have made him richer than most people can dream of being.
This wealth is generated by investing in business, but players also often start their own ventures. Michael Jordan and LeBron James are excellent examples of this, their tequila brands recently competed with each other. Big name players can use their celebrity to endorse their products too, effectively becoming excellent salesmen in their quest to grow their fortunes.
And no one knows a good salesman better than Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks. Cuban is known for his business acumen thanks to Shark Tank, a reality TV show based around entrepreneurs selling their ideas to investors. And in a recent interview with Taylor Rooks, Cuban gave his take on which NBA players are the greatest salesmen.
Taylor Rooks: “What 3 NBA players would be the best salesmen? And why?”
Mark Cuban: “I gotta go with Luka. Luka can sell, anything. The guy is so street-smart you have no idea… Like when he’s out having fun with all his boys and whoever, you’ll see a lot of stuff… You’ll see a lot of really, really cool tech stuff that he helped engineer. I’d say Luka is a great salesperson. Jordan, obviously. You know, Michael is really great at what he does there.”
Cuban named Mavericks bench player Theo Pinson as his 3rd pick, although Pinson doesn’t really have the same gravitas to his name as the other two. Jordan is a billionaire for a reason, the man owns an NBA franchise. He has to be the GOAT on this front, although it is interesting to hear that Doncic is following him off the court as well as on it.
