Not too long from now, Sundays will be filled with nonstop NFL action. But there was only one football game on the docket this Sunday, as the Raiders and Vikings dueled in what was the final game during the first full week of the preseason. In a fast-paced first half, the Raiders took a 10-6 lead into intermission.
After kicking a field goal on the game’s opening drive, the Raiders found the end zone on Jarrett Stidham’s four-yard run to cap off their second drive. Stidham completed passes to seven different teammates on the Raiders’ first two drives, while Kenyan Drake picked up a key first down on a fourth-and-1 carry that helped set up Stidham’s touchdown run.
Minnesota’s offense woke up on its third possession. Led by Sean Mannion, the Vikings moved 75 yards before settling for a 20-yard field goal by Greg Joseph. Kellen Mond, who is competing with Mannion to be the Vikings’ primary backup quarterback, entered the game on the next possession. The Vikings’ offensive line created big holes on the drive for rookie running back Ty Chandler, who ripped off consecutive runs of 14, 7 and 12 yards. But like their previous drive, the Vikings had to settle for a field goal after Mond missed an open receiver in the end zone on third-and-goal.
