Portage County area golf news and notes for August 14

The VFW Post 9716 in Streetsboro is hosting a golf outing to benefit the VFW Sportsmen’s Club on Sept. 11 at Raccoon Hill Golf Club in Kent.

The organizer of the outing, Chad Brazill of Streetsboro, has planned a four-person scramble with a shotgun starting at 9 am

The scramble includes 18 holes, lunch and a steak dinner, adult beverages and awards and prizes. There will also be a silent auction, raffle 50-50 raffle, prizes for top three teams and individual awards for longest drives (men, women, senior) as well as closest to the pin.

Brooklyn Millard competes in USGA Women’s Amateur

Brooklyn Millard of Aurora, who played to a runner-up finish at the OHSAA Division I state tournament in 2021, concluded her summer play at the USGA Women’s Amateur at Chambers Bay Golf Club in Washington state.

Millard missed the cut leading to match play, firing back-to-back rounds of 80 for a 14-over-par. The cut was 4-over-par.

Millard will not be playing for Aurora this fall. She will be attending Mike Bender’s Elite Golf School in Lake Mary, Fla.

Hole-in-one

Larry Buck of Brimfield scored a hole-in-one at Tannenhauf Golf Club. He used a 5-iron to ace the 167-yard No. 8 holes at the golf course located near Alliance. Buck’s fourth career ace was witnessed by Billy Perrie, John Nutter and Tony Menich.
