Final Tune-Up Ends in Draw for Racers Soccer

Murray State soccer battled to a scoreless draw against Southern Indiana in the final exhibition of the preseason on Saturday afternoon at Cutchin Field. The Racers were able to put five shots on goal in the 90-minute contest.

MSU controlled possession for much of the game, keeping control of the ball 65 percent of the match.

The Racers biggest chance of the first half came on a powerful shot from 14 yards out by the freshman Sydney Etter that deflected off the crossbar in the 17thth minutes.

In the second half the Racers were able to put up two big chances, the first in the form of a penalty attempt that drew a pivotal save from the Screaming Eagles goalkeeper. In the closing seconds of the match, Hailey Cole whipped a shot in on goal that drew another key touch from the keeper and deflected off the top of the crossbar as time expired.

MSU put up nine shots to USI’s seven while the Racers also put more shots on goal, five to four.

Murray State will begin the regular season on August 18 when they travel to Ruston, Louisiana to take on Louisiana Tech. Kickoff of the match is set for 7 pm
