Stamford-based First County Bank Foundation has announced this year’s recipients of the Richard E. Taber Citizenship Award scholarships. The annual award honors three Fairfield County high school students who consistently demonstrate good citizenship at school, at home and in the community.
The award is named after Richard E. Taber who retired as chairman and CEO of First County Bank in March 2011. It is in recognition of Taber’s 40-plus-year career at the bank and innumerable contributions to the community.
Among those chosen to receive a $5,000 scholarship were Karys Webb of Darien who attended Darien High School and will attend the University of Virginia, majoring in Global Public Health, and Sage Fuhrman of New Canaan, who attended New Canaan High School and will attend the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Human Dimensions of Organizations .
Senior Center holds mini golf tourney
The Stamford Senior Center is holding its fourth annual Miniature Golf Tournament to raise funds for its programs.
The evening includes miniature golf on a challenging 18-hole course, food, and beverages. The event, which will take place rain or shine, will be held beginning at 5 pm Sept. 8, at the center, 888 Washington Blvd., Stamford. The event is designed for all ages and skills. Sponsorships are available.

Silvermine Arts Center celebrates centennial
Silvermine Arts Center, 1037 Silvermine Road in New Canaan, is celebrating its 100th anniversary Sept. 10 with a day of instructor demonstrations, hands-on art projects for all ages, and new exhibitions in both the student and main galleries.
The Open House is free and is a rain-or-shine event. The day of activities is broken out into a morning session from 10 am to noon and an afternoon session from 12:30 to 2:30 pm Visitors can buy lunch at the event or bring their own — and all are welcome to stay the whole day .
There will be demonstrations by Silvermine’s instructors in both the morning and afternoon in various media, including ceramics, wheel throwing, woodworking, Ikebana, Sumi-e painting, abstract painting and more. Hands-on projects for all ages will be offered in clay, watercolors, printmaking, and pastels.
Two new exhibitions will be opened during this event. In the galleries, the 72nd A•ONE, Silvermine’s signature exhibition, will feature a wide range of collectible, contemporary artwork; the 32nd Silvermine Student Exhibition in the School Student Gallery will feature award winners from this year’s online student show. There will be an opening reception for the student show from 2:30 to 4:30 pm
