Hockey:

Canada 11 Slovakia 1

Mason McTavish recorded four goals and two assists for the host Canadians who improved to 2-0 in round robin play in Edmonton.

Canada’s next game is on Saturday against the Czech Republic.

The medal games are slated for August 20th.

UNBC Timberwolves:

Training camp is underway for both men’s and women’s soccer teams at UNBC.

The Timberwolves kick off the men’s soccer season August 26th at 6pm against the Trinity Western Spartans from Masich Place Stadium.

In Canada West women’s action, UNBC begins play September 3rd against UBC Okanagan in Kelowna.

MLB:

The (60-50) Toronto Blue Jays kick off a six-game homestand tonight against the Cleveland Guardians (4:07 PT).

The Jays currently lead the AL Wild Card Standings.

CFL:

Montreal Alouettes 20 Winnipeg Blue Bombers 17 (OT)

The defeat drops Winnipeg to 9-1 on the season while Montreal improves to 3-6.

Tonight (Friday), the Hamilton Ti-Cats (2-6) welcome the Toronto Argonauts (4-3).

The (6-1) BC Lions visit the (5-2) Calgary Stampeders Saturday (4 pm PT).

BC Football Conference:

The (0-2) Prince George Kodiaks visit the (2-1) Valley Huskers Saturday night at 7:00 in Chilliwack in the BC Football Conference.

The same two teams will also play on Saturday, August 20th at Masich Place Stadium in Prince George.

The Kodiaks lost to the Huskers 31-5 on July 23rd in Chilliwack before dropping their home opener last Saturday (August 6th), a 35-20 loss to the Kamloops Broncos.

National Bank Open Tennis

Although Bianca Andreescu was eliminated from the National Bank Open, the week as a whole felt like a win.

The 22-year-old reached the Round of 16 where she fell to China’s Zheng Qinwen 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, on Thursday.

Andreescu was the last Canadian playing in either the women’s singles or doubles tournament.
