The Cleveland Guardians took sole possession of first place in the American League Central division last night with their 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.

The Guardians are in first place for the first time since late June, with the Minnesota Twins having dominated the AL Central since then and for most of the season.

Just 2.5 games back though are the defending AL Central champions, the Chicago White Sox, who have crawled back into contention after a bad first half.

Guardians insider Mandy Bell tweeted about where the three teams stand as of now and how this could be MLB’s most exciting division to watch with just over 50 games left in the season.

The AL Central Is A Division To Watch

Buckle up, baseball fans.

We’ve got an exciting race on our hands in the AL Central.

This division was a one-horse race last year, with the White Sox finishing 13 games ahead of the Guardians who finished in second but also finished below .500.

This time, it’s a three-horse race and these three teams are neck and neck right now.

The Twins have led for the vast majority of the season.

The Guardians were quiet at the trade deadline, but have gotten hot ever since and are now in the lead.

And then, we have the White Sox, who won the division last year and are lurking in third place, not too far out of first.

Both the Twins and White Sox are also very close in the Wild Card race, so as the season winds down, the AL Central is going to be a very interesting division to watch.

It may not be a division where three teams are powerhouses, but they’re all three in the race and it’s going to get exciting.
