This August, the NBA will launch the NBA Gallery, a multi-media exhibition that will focus on the American league’s relationship with Australia and pop culture at large.
The NBA Gallery will be an immersive experience, featuring work from some of the country’s most exciting artists, working in a multitude of mediums in order to show Australia’s rich history and connection with the league.
The relationship between the NBA and Australia has never been stronger, with a strong contingent of Aussies representing their country on basketball’s biggest stage, and the NBA Gallery will pay tribute to this.
Running from August 18th through to September 1st, the free exhibition will be run out of EDDY at Sydney’s Central Station and will feature original pieces from artists Dennis Golding, Kris Andrew Small, Mini Swoosh, Nike Savvas, Noah Johnson, Roman Jody, Scott Marsh , Serwah Attafuah, and Sonny Day.
From mixed media to installations and graffiti, this exhibition will be a true showcase of Australia’s art and culture scene, and its connection with the NBA.
As well as these installations, there will also be a room specifically dedicated to screening NBA Australia’s new series ‘Ingrained’, created by Matthew Adekponya, and featuring a huge range of Australian athletes and personalities – such as tennis player Nick Kyrgios and current WNBA star and Opal Ezi Magbegor – which draws a line between the NBA and its place in Australian popular culture.
For those unable to attend these screenings, the episodes will also be uploaded to NBA Australia’s social channels.
This pop-up is the most recent in a long line of Australian basketball contributions to the sport as a whole, which also includes the NBA Global Academy, a hub for the top-tier international basketball players whose alumni include current NBA players Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels.
Opening next Thursday, the immersive experience will run for two weeks until the first of September, and will be open from 11 am to 7 pm each day, allowing plenty of time for even the most diehard hoops fans to check it out.
