Major League Baseball is returning to Iowa for a second straight year.
After the White Sox and Yankees competed in the first-ever Field of Dreams Game in 2021, the Reds and Cubs will be the second matchup of MLB teams in Dyersville, Iowa, when they take the field on Thursday.
Unlike last year’s matchup, which featured two teams fighting for the playoffs, neither the Reds nor Cubs are in the mix for the postseason. Instead, this clash could have implications on the NL Central standings, as Cincinnati has improved from a poor start to the season to join the fight for third place in the division with the Cubs and Pirates.
In last year’s game, the White Sox beat the Yankees 9-8 on a walk-off two-run home run into the corner by Tim Anderson.

Where is the Field of Dreams Game?
- Location: Dyersville, Iowa
Just as it was in the first edition of the game, the Field of Dreams Game will take place in a ballpark in Dyersville, Iowa, built next to the original diamond from the 1989 movie.
The ballpark is a unique stadium with dimensions and seating capacities that are not similar to typical MLB stadiums. It can seat only 8,000 people, and the outfield is 300 feet to the left, 350 feet to the center and 315 feet to the right. The closest stadium with dimensions like that is Fenway Park, which is 310 feet to the left, although batters have to get the ball over the Green Monster. Fenway is also only 302 feet to right field and 390 feet to center.
The design of the Field of Dreams park pays homage to Comiskey Park, the home of the 1919 White Sox. It also has windows in the outfield that show the corn in right field and has a path that connects the MLB stadium to the movie set stadium.
The game will not be played on the original “Field of Dreams” field, as it is too small, and too many baseballs would be lost in the cornfield.
Field of Dreams Game uniforms
Reds Field of Dreams jersey
Cincinnati is going to go back to its first World Series-winning team’s uniforms: the 1919 Reds.
The jerseys, pants and pants will feature pinstripes. The team’s C logo over the Reds on the jersey is a bit thinner than the current logo, while the logo on the hat has a more old-fashioned C on it.
Baseball history buffs might remember that the team the Reds beat in that World Series were the Chicago “Black Sox”, a team that was featured prominently in “Field of Dreams.”

Cubs Field of Dreams jersey
Chicago will bring a mismatch of two eras to make a unique look for the Field of Dreams Game.
The hat, which features a bear cub holding a baseball bat, was the team’s hat for road games in 1914. The jerseys are similar to their late-1920s home uniforms, with a C reminiscent of Cincinnati’s C featuring a cub holding a bat in the center of it. The jerseys are a cream color rather than white.
