KARACHI:
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has termed the results of the soft launch of the Asaan Mobile Account (AMA) very encouraging as more than 3.3 million accounts have been opened on the AMA platform.
Since its launch in mid-December 2021, 6.1 million financial transactions worth Rs40.5 billion and over 18.2 million non-financial transactions have been conducted.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the SBP announced that the central bank, in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, had launched a mass media campaign for the AMA – a flagship initiative under the National Financial Inclusion Strategy – to mark its formal launch.
AMA is aimed at addressing the financial exclusion challenges faced by the unbanked segments by providing them an easy, affordable and digital access to financial services. “The launch of the mass media campaign will help in creating general awareness about the AMA, its ease of use and allied benefits to attract the unbanked segments into the formal financial network,” the SBP said.
