NEW YORK — The Columbia women’s golf program officially introduced Emma Shen spirit Yoko Tai on Wednesday. Shen and Tai are both incoming first-year head coaches Amy Weeks‘ team.
“I’m excited to welcome Emma and Yoko to the program and see what they bring to the team this year,” Coach Weeks said. “Both of them have competed in national and international championships and have impressive finishes. This class will keep our program moving in the right direction as we chase our ultimate goal of winning the Ivy League title and making it to NCAAs!”

Emma Shen – First Year – CC – Demarest, NJ / Bergen Tech
A local product, Emma Shen joins the roster after earning three varsity letters at Bergen Tech (2019, 2021, 2022). She helped Bergen Tech win its first County Championship in 2021, as well as make three consecutive appearances at the State Tournament of Champions. The three-time Team MVP and two-time NJ.com All-State selection was the No. 1 ranked golfer in Bergen County in 2022. Shen is a two-time Bergen County Individual Champion (2021, ’22) and finished top 10 at states three times, including a personal-best third-place finish in 2022. She also qualified for the 2021 US Girls’ Junior, as well as the 2022 US Women’s Amateur Four-Ball. Academically, Shen was named to Bergen Tech’s High Honor Roll in 12 of her marking periods, is an AP Scholar with Honor and had the opportunity to major in Aerospace Engineering throughout high school.
Yoko Tai – First Year – CC – Singapore / Windermere Prep (FL)
After competing in varsity golf for five years in the Sunshine State at Windermere Prep, Yoko Tai joins the Lions’ roster. Tai won the 2021 FHSAA 1A Girls Golf State Championship with Windermere and captained the 2022 team to a semifinal appearance at the Florida Women’s Amateur. Individually, Tai finished Top 20 at the 2021 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific and has several other top finishes at prestigious tournaments. Her other notable performances include a T-3 at the 2021 AJGA Memorial Junior, a T-5 at the 2021 Junior Orange Bowl and a T-2 at the 2020 Dustin Johnson World Junior Championship. A Top Ten Scholar in her graduating class, Tai also captained her team at the Mason Cup, which is a Ryder Cup-style junior event that raises money for the Mason Goodnight Foundation and the AJGA ACE Grant Program.
