Here’s a new one.
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Rodolfo Castro had his phone fall out of his back pocket while sliding into third base on Tuesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Third base umpire Adam Hamari had to inform Castro that his phone was on the ground.
This is a first… Rodolfo Castro’s phone fell out of his pocket in the middle of the game 😅 pic.twitter.com/qaPd34qroF

The first question here is of course- why does Castro have his phone in his uniform while playing a Major League Baseball game?
Castro was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates earlier in the day, and this was certainly a unique way to make his presence felt in the majors. He went 0-for-3 with a walk.
The Pirates lost the game 6-4 to fall to 44-69 on the season, and Pittsburgh beat writers seemed to all have the same reaction after the game ended: Castro’s phone falling out was basically the only interesting thing that happened with the Pirates in a boring game between two bad teams.
The Pirates lose, 6-4. The offense woke up in the 8th, but it was too little too late. Castro’s phone will be the only highlight anyone sees.
Bucs are 44-66.

That’s game. Diamondbacks 6, Pirates 4.
I’m going to be writing about how Rodolfo Castro’s phone fell out of his pocket, which should be an indicator of how this game went. Michael Chavis went yard twice.
Pirates fell to 44-66.

Baseball continues to find unique ways to give us a daily instance of something we’ve never seen before. Then again, with the obsession we have with technology and the need to have our phones these days, perhaps this kind of play will happen again pretty soon.
