LUBBOCK, Texas (August 9, 2022) – Lubbock Christian University associate athletic director – communications Chris Due is pleased to welcome Richard Martin to the Sports Information Department as the assistant sports information director.
“Richard checked all the boxes during the hiring process,” said Due. “He has a great skill set, from writing and digital graphics to on-air broadcasting, and I am looking forward to having Richard use those qualities in telling the story of the Chaparrals and Lady Chaparrals.”
Martin comes to LCU from Johnson City, Tenn., where he was serving as the athletic communications graduate assistant at NCAA Division II Carson-Newman. At Carson-Newman, Martin served as the SID contact for men’s soccer, cross country, track & field and beach volleyball and also served as one of the play-by-play announcers for the Eagle Sports Network. The South Atlantic Conference honored Carson-Newman during the 2021-2022 campaign with the conference’s Media Relations Staff of the Year honor. Martin claimed an MBA in Sports Management at Carson-Newman.
The Gaffney, SC native worked at Kennesaw State for two years as a video assistant in the Athletic Department prior to Carson-Newman. Martin helped produce ESPN+ broadcasts for Kennesaw State women’s basketball, volleyball, football, women’s lacrosse and baseball. A graduate of Gardner Webb (Bachelor of Arts in Journalism), Martin has worked media roles in baseball with the Florence RedWolves, Forrest City Owls and most recently spending this summer working media relations and broadcasting for the Greeneville Flyboys of the Appalachian League.
Martin takes over the role at LCU vacated by Everett Corder, who accepted a communications position at his alma mater, Texas Tech, in the Alumni Association offices. Corder joined a list of valuable contributors to the LCU sports information offices, following Zack Chavez (currently the director of strategic communications for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) and Becca Walters (currently serving as senior director of marketing and communications at Black Hills State University) .
The LCU sports information offices handle all the communication (archiving, broadcasting, public relations, social media and website) and game day operations of LCU sporting events. In 2021-22, their efforts towards the Lone Star Conference Digital Network helped LCU rank third in the LSC and first among non-football universities (in the LSC) in viewer revenue.
