Jul. 8—The Grandview Lady Zebras received incredible representation on the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State Softball Team while the Godley Lady Cats received a first-team selection on the Class 4A team.
Representing Godley on the TSWA Class 4A All-State Softball Team is junior pitcher/shortstop Cadence Chambliess as a first-team selection as a utility player.
Chambliess was dominant in every facet of the game for the undefeated District 10-4A champion Lady Cats, who reached the Class 4A Region II quarterfinals.
At the plate, Chambliess boasted a .557 batting average, a .631 on-base percentage and an .814 slugging percentage with 46 RBIs, 40 runs scored and 17 extra-base hits. In the pitcher’s circle, Chambliess went 12-3 with 88 strikeouts against 14 walks in 96 1/3 innings pitched for a 4.28 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP.
In addition to her TSWA first-team all-state selection, Chambliess also was voted District 10-4A MVP as well as All-Johnson County co-MVP.
On the TSWA Class 3A Team, the Grandview Lady Zebras garnered an impressive eight selections.
Leading Grandview’s representation at the all-state level are freshman Madi Doty and junior Bella Jeter as first-team selections at pitcher and first base, respectively.
Doty was stellar for the Lady Zebras as she easily lived up to the hype for her highly anticipated freshman season. After helping Team USA win gold at the U-15 Pan American Championships in April, Doty’s play helped the Lady Zebras advance to the UIL state tournament for the second time in school history.
Doty posted a 19-3 pitching record and was 4-for-4 in save opportunities. In 132 innings pitched, Doty recorded 231 strikeouts against 32 walks and 26 earned runs allowed for a 1.37 ERA and a stellar 0.75 WHIP ratio. Offensively, Doty slashed .427/.490/.718 with 35 RBIs, 41 runs, 22 extra-base hits and seven homers.
Like Chambliess, Doty was also voted MVP of her district (17-3A) and was also the All-Johnson County co-MVP.
Jeter finished up her impressive junior season by swinging one of the hottest bats in the entire state, regardless of classification, during the playoffs. For the season, Jeter hit .500 with a .555 on-base percentage and a staggering .963 slugging percentage with 58 RBIs, 56 runs, 15 home runs, 31 extra-base hits and 16 walks.
Jeter was a first-team all-district and first-team All-Johnson County selection.
Grandview sophomore shortstop Jaley James received second-team honors on the Class 3A TSWA All-State Team while senior pitcher Caydin Blackmon, senior third baseman Olivia Bauerschlag and freshman outfielder Sydney Mann each garnered third-team honors.
James dominated offensively and defensively for Grandview. In the batter’s box, she boasted a .515 batting average, .596 on-base percentage and .938 slugging percentage with 64 RBIs, 72 runs, 30 extra-base hits and 12 homers. Defensively, James posted a .944 fielding percentage with 42 assists, 43 putouts and four double plays in her first season playing shortstop.
James was voted District 17-3A defensive player of the year and the All-Johnson County defensive player of the year.
Blackmon went 18-1 in the pitcher’s circle with 126 strikeouts against 21 walks and 18 earned runs allowed in 91 innings pitched for a 1.38 ERA and a strong 0.85 WHIP ratio. Blackmon was also the District 17-3A and All-Johnson County pitcher of the year.
Bauerschlag slashed .460/.497/.855 with 43 RBIs, 47 runs, 17 extra-base hits and three homers in addition to stellar defensive play on the hot corner. Bauerschlag was a first-team all-district and all-county selection as well.
Mann hit .430 with 26 RBIs, 54 runs and 24 stolen bases to go along with a strong defensive presence in center field.
Rounding out Grandview’s representation on the TSWA Class 3A All-State team are sophomore catcher Kylie Grafa and senior second baseman KK Moore as honorable mentions.
Grafa slashed .435/.497/.855 with 56 RBIs, 18 runs, 28 extra-base hits and 13 homers. She also earned District 17-3A offensive player of the year recognition in addition to All-Johnson County catcher of the year honors.
And Moore hit .309 with 17 RBIs and 30 runs while also earning first-team honors on the all-district and All-Johnson County teams.
