TAUNTON — A Silver City summertime tradition is back.
The annual Taunton Junior City Open will take place July 31 and Aug. 1 at the John F. Parker Golf Course with the Greater Taunton area’s top young golfers competing to show off their skills and determine who’s the best.
The tournament is divided into three divisions based on age, with Division I featuring golfers aged 11-13, Division II for golfers aged 14-15 and Division III for golfers aged 16-18. All golfers will play 18 holes on July 31 before the field is cut to the low scores for a final round of 18 holes on Aug. 1, with the lowest score after 36 combined holes declared the winner, with the winners and runners-up in each division receiving trophies.
At last year’s Taunton Junior City Open, Andrew Machado took home the top spot in Division III while Cameron Poirier won Division II and Charlie Rosa captured the Division I crown.
The entry fee for the tournament is $20 and includes a golf clinic at the John F. Parker Golf Course on July 27 from 5:30 pm to 7 pm with PGA professional instructor Dan Botelho. Interested golfers must register at the John F. Parker Golf Course by July 27.
The Taunton Junior City Open is slated to start at 7:30 am on July 31. Tee times for each golfer will be posted both at the golf course and in the Taunton Daily Gazette ahead of the tournament.
