The Chicago Bulls have been very active so far this summer, making a flurry of moves in free agency. Internally, the Bulls brought back Nikola Vucevic and Coby White on three-year deals. And externally, they brought in Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig during free agency, improving their overall depth.
However, there is still one loose end that has yet to be tied. Ayo Dosunmu is still a restricted free agent, as the Bulls extended him the qualifying offer, but there has been little news about a potential deal. Little news about a potential new contract with the Bulls that is.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Toronto Raptors have “expressed interest” in Dosunmu as of late.
“The Raptors have a lot left to determine after losing Fred VanVleet to the Rockets,” Fischer wrote. “Toronto did add Dennis Schröder as a replacement, and the Raptors, sources said, had also expressed interest in Bulls restricted free agent guard Ayo Dosunmu. It remains to be seen if Toronto will conduct further business to overcome the loss of its starting point guard.”
As noted by Fischer, Toronto lost Fred VanVleet this summer, as the All-Star point guard accepted a deal to join the Houston Rockets. And while they brought in Dennis Schroder, they could still use some help at the point guard position.
Dosunmu is a nice young talent, and while his 3-point shot hasn’t been great, he plays hard on defense and is a fairly well-rounded player. For a Raptors team that’s thin at the guard position, he would be a great addition.
But from Chicago’s perspective, they should be looking to keep him around, too, because while they did just bring in Carter, they still need as much help at the guard position as they can get.
