The Mets’ bullpen closed the door on a series win to start July as the offense produced eight runs in the series finale.

In the game’s early innings, David Peterson took the mound looking to build on a strong start from Tuesday when he tossed six shutout innings against the Brewers.

On Sunday night, the left-hander went just four innings but remained effective against the San Francisco lineup. In the four frames, Peterson surrendered just one run on three hits along with three strikeouts.

“I felt like I could keep going,” Peterson said. “I feel like we got off to a good start. The offense gave us some good cushion. Great team win. Great series win.”

In a season that featured a stint in Triple-A Syracuse, Peterson cited the improvement of his secondary pitches in giving his team a chance to win in recent outings.

“It’s been a huge focus all year,” Peterson said. “It’s been one pitch in the past that I never really had to worry about. I kind of battled it in spring training. It was a pitch early on that hurt me. It was good to work on it and sharpen it up again. It feels good to throw it knowing the spot I’m in with it now.”

Peterson holds a chance to continue to build momentum after these first two starts before the All-Star break rolls around for New York.
