A new champion will be crowned Sunday at Detroit Golf Club after last year’s winner Tony Finau shot 1-under-par 143 to miss the cutline by three strokes.
Taylor Moore, who won the Valspar Championship in March, shot 64-67 to climb atop the leaderboard at 13-under-par 131. Moore finished sixth at last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. He is joined at 13 under by Taylor Pendrith, who finished runner-up to Finau a year ago here, and who shot 64 in the second round.
Fan favorite Rickie Fowler shot 65 on Friday after his opening-round 67 to get to 12 under and tied for third. He last won on Tour in 2018. He’ll be paired in the penultimate twosome with Ludvig Aberg, the No. 1 player in college this year at Texas Tech, who is tied with Fowler one shot behind the Taylors.
Collin Morikawa, a two-time major champion, lurks at 11 under in a tie for fifth. 2021 Rocket champ Cam Davis is a factor at 10 under par.
Max Homa, the highest ranked player in the field at No. 9 in the world, sits six shots back at 7 under par.
