Yankees’ Aaron Judge named 2023 All-Star starter

Aaron Judgethe reigning AL MVP and Yankee captain, has been named a starting outfielder for the 2023 MLB All-Star Game.

The Yankees slugger was last season’s leading vote-getter, but despite his toe injury this season, Judge continued to earn enough votes to be the starter following his nomination last week. This season will be Judge’s fifth career All-Star selection and was voted as the third outfielder for the American League, earning 19 percent of the vote. He was behind the Angels’ Mike Trout and the Rays’ Randy Arozarena.

Other AL All-Stars include leading vote-getter Shohei Ohtanirookie Josh Jungcatcher Jonah Heim, shortstop Corey Seagerfirst baseman Yandy Diaz and second baseman Marcus Semien.

In 49 games this season, Judge has similar numbers to his MVP year. He’s slashing .291/.404/1.078 with 19 home runs and 40 RBI. Although Judge has missed a lot of time since injuring his toe while making a catch in the outfield against the Dodgers, there has yet to be a timetable for his return.

It’s unlikely Judge will be able to play in the All-Star game, but the honor remains.

Now with five selections, Judge is behind just Derek Jeter (9), Dave Winfield (7) and Alex Rodriguez (8) for most selections as a Yankee.
