WORCESTER — Ditch the stirrups and jerseys. Throw aside the pants, cleats and baseball caps.
When it comes to outfits — away from the baseball diamond — who is the best dressed member of the Worcester Red Sox? Members of the WooSox social media team attempted to crack the case on Thursday by asking players the million dollar question prior to their game with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Polar Park.
And the winner?
“Me,” WooSox infielder/outfielder Niko Goodrum said.
In a landslide. Out of the 12 players featured in a video posted on social mediaeight named Niko Goodrum as the best dressed member of the WooSox.
“No surprise,” the 31-year-old Goodrum said on Friday. “I’m very confident I was going to win that award. People think because you go and buy nice stuff, no it’s not that. I can go to ‘Ross’ and I would win best dressed just the same. It’s an honor to win it, I appreciate my teammates who voted me as best dressed.
“(Chase Shugart) is probably going to say it’s rigged, however, I’m grateful of my teammates.”
Teammates Taylor Broadway, Narciso Cook, Theo Denlinger, Jake Faria, Rio Gomez, Chris Murphy and Enmanuel Valdez cast their votes for Goodrum, who also voted for himself.
“He’s always coming in swaggy,” Denlinger said.
“Niko dresses pretty well,” Faria said. “He’s got some swag, so I try to keep up with him — well, my wife tries to help me keep up with him — but Niko looks pretty good.”
The non-Goodrum votes came from fellow self-voters like Ronaldo Hernandez and Shugart, while Ryan Sherriff voted for Faria, and Daniel Palka picked WooSox hitting coach Rich Gedman. After seeing the video pop up on his own social media feed, WooSox manager Chad Tracy added his thoughts on who he thought was best dressed.
“I’m going to go with Rich Gedman, like Palka. I gotta say that,” Tracy said. “Niko is up there for sure. Geddy is sharp. Geddy is old-school sharp, I like that.”
The competition continues.
