Pence to receive plaque, spot on Giants’ Wall of Fame in Sept. originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants have already celebrated Will Clark, Buster Posey, and Matt Cain this season and next week they’ll bring back members of the 2012 World Series team. On Monday, they added one more ceremony to the schedule.
Hunter Pence will go up on the team’s Wall of Fame before a game against the rival Dodgers on Saturday, Sept. 17. Pence will become the 55th person to go up on the Wall of Fame, and the Giants are mixing it up with the ceremony. Pence’s plaque will first be unveiled during an on-field ceremony.
“I’m truly humbled by this honor,” Pence said in a statement. “To be included among people who I consider legends of the organization is surreal and I’m overwhelmed with gratitude to even be considered. The Giants organization and the San Francisco community are my family. This honor wouldn’t be possible if not for the love, support, and dedication I’ve shared with them. I can’t thank the club, my teammates, and the fans enough for the unforgettable memories.”
Pence came over at the deadline in 2012 and ended up playing eight seasons for the Giants. He hit 95 homers and drove in 412 runs in 789 games in orange and black and made the All-Star team in 2014.
For his first three seasons in San Francisco, Pence was the game’s most durable player, and he was an inspirational leader for the Giants. He finished his career by coming back to San Francisco for 17 games in 2020.

Pence still lives in San Francisco with his wife, Alexis, and has done several games as part of the broadcast team. In a statement announcing the honor, team president and CEO Larry Baer said Pence played a “pivotal role in our two World Series championships” in 2012 and 2014 and noted that his “connection to this great city is a special one.”
The Giants, who have struggled with ticket sales this season, announced later in the morning that $8 tickets will be available for many of their remaining home games.
