Golfweek, which already listed the 15 best public courses in the state of Wisconsin, added a small list of private courses with another round of rankings, judged by an international panel of experts.
The hundreds of members of that ratings panel continuously evaluate courses and rate them based on 10 criteria, on a points basis of 1 through 10. They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce these rankings.
All the courses on the list are private and do not accept daily-fee or resort play. All five from Wisconsin are “classic” courses, defined as built before the year 1960.
These are the five on the list:

Milwaukee Country Club. Ranked No. 48 in the nation overall among private courses, the current version of the course opened in 1929 along the Milwaukee River.

Blue Mound Golf & Country Club. Ranked No. 129 nationally, the Wauwatosa course opened in 1926 and hosted the 1933 PGA Championship. More recently, it hosted the 2020 Wisconsin State Open.

Oneida Golf and Country Club. The Green Bay course opened in 1929, later paired with horse stables and riding experiences, which were phased out in the 1980s.

Pine Hills Country Club. The Sheboygan course is known for its shorter distances but tough, smaller greens.

West Bend Country Club. The course opened in 1930.
