Vols working in transfer portal again

Tennessee baseball reached the College World Series for the second time in three seasons thanks to key contributions from transfers.

The Vols will be active in the transfer portal once again looking to bring in talent again after landing the likes of shortstop Maui Ahuna, third baseman Zane Denton, pitcher Andrew Lindsey, and designated hitter Griffin Merritt to bolster the 2023 roster.

Here is who is joining and leaving the Vols via the portal:

Who is leaving Tennessee baseball?

Jake Fitzgibbons − Pitcher

Fitzbibbons had his biggest role in his third season, but still was towards the back end of the UT bullpen. He posted a 3.75 ERA in 12 innings in 17 appearances. The Mount Juliet native pitched in 30 games in three years at Tennessee.

Alex Stanwich − Outfielder

Stanwich was one of the top earners for the Vols in the 2022 recruiting class. He took the spring semester off “to get some things sorted out,” Vitello said in February. UT expected then Stanwich would be back in the fall but he entered the portal.

Jacob Bimbi – Pitcher

Bimbi entered the portal and transferred to Western Kentucky. The junior-college signee in the 2022 class was expected to be a key lefty arm in the bullpen, but never gained a notable role. He had a 5.27 ERA in 15 appearances and did not appear in an SEC game.

Turner Swistak – Pitcher

Swistak is transferring to Louisiana Tech after not playing in his lone season in Tennessee. He redshirted this season after dealing with an early season injury. Swistak joined the Vols following two seasons at Pearl River Community College.

Shawn Scott − Pitcher/outfielder

Scott pitched in three games in 2021 before sitting out 2022 after having Tommy John surgery. He worked as a pitcher and an outfielder in the fall, but did not have a role in 2023.
