Detroit Tigers claim former Anchor Bay, Michigan State pitcher Anthony Misiewicz off waivers

MINNEAPOLIS — Former Anchor Bay High School and Michigan State University left-handed pitcher Anthony Misiewicz has joined the Detroit Tigers’ organization after being claimed off waivers Sunday.

Misiewicz, a relief pitcher, has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo.

The 28-year-old has already been a part of the three organizations — Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks — in 2023. The Tigers claimed him off waivers from the Diamondbacks.

The Seattle Mariners selected Misiewicz in the 18th round (No. 545 overall) in the 2015 draft out of Michigan State. He pitched for the Mariners in the 2020-22 seasons before a trade to the Royals.

In 2023, Misiewicz pitched in seven games for the Diamondbacks. He logged a 5.63 ERA with three walks and six strikeouts in eight innings. He also pitched in 10 games for Triple-A Reno, with a 2.84 ERA, five walks and 14 strikeouts in 12⅔ innings.

Misiewicz also spent parts of May and June on the injured list with a right calf strain.

He owns a 4.51 ERA with a 7.1% walk rate and a 23.3% strikeout rate in his 126-game career in the big leagues.

Right-handed reliever Seth Elledge — claimed off waivers from the New York Mets in mid-May — was designated for assignment by the Tigers to make room for Misiewicz on the 40-man roster.

Elledge, 27, posted a 3.86 ERA with seven walks and 13 strikeouts across 14 innings in 10 games for Triple-A Toledo.
