Shane Bieber nearly gave the Guardians bullpen a night off, but two eighth-inning home runs were enough to lead to a 6-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday night in Phoenix.
The Guardians (32-38) and Diamondbacks (43-29) entered the eighth inning deadlocked 2-2. With an efficient Bieber still on the mound, Jake McCarthy broke the tie with a solo home run to right-center field. A few batters later, rookie Corbin Carrol added a two-run shot to give Arizona a 5-2 lead.

Bieber ended the night with five earned runs allowed on seven hits (including three home runs) with five strikeouts.
The Guardians brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth after Amed Rosario blooped a single to load the bases with one out for Jose Ramirez, who hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 6-3. But Josh Naylor then grounded out to first base to end it.
