Ludvig Aberg shoots 69, ties for 25th in first event as a pro

TORONTO — Former Texas Tech golfer Ludvig Aberg birdied his last three holes to shoot a 3-under-par 69 on Sunday and tie for 25th in the RBC Canadian Open.

Aberg was 1-over for the day after a bogey at the par-4 10th. Then over the last seven holes, the 23-year-old Swede birdied two par-5s and two par-4s.

Although Aberg had played in pro tournaments previously as an amateur, the past week at Oakdale Golf & Country Club was his first since he earned full status on the PGA Tour by finishing atop the points list on the PGA Tour University rankings.

Aberg shot 69, 72 and 71 the first three days. He finished 7-under, in a group that included Ryan Moore.

Aberg and Moore are two of the seven players who swept college golf’s three honors that designate the player of the year: the Ben Hogan Award, the Fred Haskins Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award. Moore did it in 2005, and Aberg did it this school year when he won four events, including the Big 12 tournament and the NCAA Norman Regional.

Former Texas Tech golfer Ludvig Aberg finished 7 under par after shooting 3-under 69 in Sunday's final round of the RBC Canadian Open. It was Aberg's first tournament as a professional after he swept college golf's three awards for player of the year.
