Here’s the latest on some of the Mets’ top prospects…
SS/2B Ronny Mauricio, Triple-A Syracuse
After Tuesday and Wednesday’s games were postponed due to poor air quality because of smoke from recent wildfires in Canada, Mauricio had a tough week at the plate.
The 22-year-old went hitless (combined 0-for-8) over Syracuse’s first two games against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Thursday and Friday. Mauricio then went 2-for-8 with one RBI on Saturday’s doubleheader as Syracuse lost both games.
After hitting .367 in May, Mauricio is hitting just .171 with one HR over 35 at-bats through eight games in June. Overall, he’s slashing .320/.360/.524 with eight homers and 35 RBI over 60 games.
C Kevin Parada, High-A Brooklyn
It was an up-and-down week for Parada, who went 4-for-15 over four games. The high point of the week came on Wednesday when the slugger went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI in a win over the Greenville Drive.
Overall, Parada, who is now the Mets’ No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline (Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty have graduated off the list), is slashing .245/.335/.394 with four home runs and 17 RBI.
OF Alex Ramirez, High-A Brooklyn
Ramirez, now the Mets’ No. 2 prospect, didn’t have the best week at the plate, going 3-for-17 across five games. He did hit a three-run homer against Greenville on Tuesday, and then went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in Wednesday’s win.
Overall, Ramirez is slashing .253/.338/.382 with five home runs and 29 RBI.
SS Jett Williams, Low-A St. Lucie
The Mets’ No. 3 prospect, Williams only had one hit over 13 at-bats in four games, but it was an RBI-triple (his second triple of the season). The youngster also had a three-walk game on Wednesday.
Despite his low batting average (.200), Williams has been an on-base machine (.395) thanks to 37 walks in 43 games. He has two home runs, 17 RBI, and 23 runs scored on the season.
RHP Mike Vasil, Double-A Binghamton
Vasil got roughed up a bit on Saturday against the Reading Fightin Phils, as he allowed five earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts over five innings.
The 23-year-old is now 1-2 on the season over 51.0 IP and 10 starts with 57 strikeouts, a 3.71 ERA, and a 0.84 WHIP.
RHP Blade Tidwell, High-A Brooklyn
Heading into Sunday’s game, the Mets’ second-round pick from last year owned a 2-3 record over nine starts with 50 strikeouts in 34.2 IP to go along with a 4.93 ERA and 1.53 WHIP.
Tidwell got the start on Sunday afternoon against Greenville and allowed two earned runs on four hits over 4.0 innings of work with an impressive 10 strikeouts, tied for a career-high, and four walks.
OF Matt Rudick, Double-A Binghamton
The 24-year-old has become a topic of conversation, as SNY contributor Joe DeMayo recently wrote about the outfielder’s rise this season, by slashing .304/.447/.526 over 50 games with nine homers and 31 RBI.
Rudick homered twice this week, going 2-for-4 with a HR, walk, and three runs scored on June 8 and then going 1-for-3 with a HR, three RBI and a walk on June 10.
