ALLENDALE — The 1997 Hartland boys golf team might have some company in Livingston County sports history by Saturday afternoon.
Those Eagles are the only state championship golf team to come out of the county, but Brighton is making a strong bid to become the second.
The Bulldogs were tied for first place with KLAA rival Northville after the first of two rounds in the state Division 1 tournament at The Meadows, Grand Valley State University’s home course.
Brighton and Northville shot 16-over-par 300 to hold a six-shot lead over Ann Arbor Skyline. Rochester Adams is fourth in the 18-team field at 309.
Senior Andrew Daily is leading the way for the Bulldogs, tying for fourth place with a 2-over-par 73. Winston Lerch and Levi Pennala are tied for 15th with 75s, Riley Morton is tied for 22nd with a 77 and Matt Doyle is tied for 37th with an 80.
The final round will begin at 9 am Saturday.
