Who is starting for the Mets?
Justin Verlander takes the mound looking to avoid the sweep and put an end to the Mets’ losing stretch.
The right-hander is coming off a strong start against the Blue Jays at Citi Field. He allowed a solo home run to George Springer leading off the game, but that was it.
The Mets offense wasn’t able to back him up, though, and he suffered the loss. Verlander threw 117 pitches over six innings and allowed just the one run on five hits while walking three and striking out eight.
The 39-year-old now has a 4.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts though six starts.
He has good career numbers against the Braves, holding them to a 2.57 ERA across three starts.
Who is starting for the Braves?
Verlander will be opposed by a right-hander Spencer Strider.
Strider is currently tied for the league lead with 113 strikeouts on the season to go along with a stellar 14.9 K/9 mark. He’s won each of his last two outings and has posted a 2.97 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through his 12 starts.
The Mets have gotten to Strider a bit in his six career appearances against them (5.03 ERA), but he is 3-1 in that span. The last time they faced off, New York was able to put up four runs on five hits and knock him out after five innings on May 1 at Citi Field.
Strider and the Braves went on to win 9-8.
Upcoming schedule
The Mets continue their road trip as they head to Pittsburgh to take on Bryan Reynolds and the Pirates on Friday at 7:05 pm on SNY.
The Mets still haven’t announced a starter, but whoever it is will be opposed by a veteran left-hander and former Mets starter Rich Hill (5-5, 4.41 ERA).
