Rydarrious “Red” Morgan has only had a scholarship offer from Florida State for a matter of months.
That hasn’t stopped the Seminoles from climbing near the top of Phenix City (Ala.) Central High’s list of schools right now coming out of his FSU official visit this weekend.
“FSU is something that I want to be a part of. They’re high on my list right now,” Morgan said after his visit. “Coach (Mike) Norvell, he’s building something different here. Something I’d like to be a part of.”
It was Morgan’s second visit to FSU in a few months’ time. He got his offer from FSU while on an unofficial visit back in March. Less than three months later, the 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back was back for his first of four official visits over the next few weeks.
“This trip, it was different…I really liked it…” Morgan said. “The energy, that Warchant is like music to my ears. It’s just so satisfying to me.”
Rivals list Morgan, who had two interceptions, four pass deflections and 50 total tackles in his junior season at Central, as a three-star safety prospect. However, he appreciates that the FSU staff isn’t putting any sort of positional labels on him at this point in the process.
“It was great. He was just telling me like they’re not just gonna put a specific position on me yet because they know I’m an athlete, they know I can play everything,” Morgan said. “I’ll line up anywhere, for real.”
Morgan sees himself as a versatile Jammie Robinson type of defensive back and so it’s fitting that FSU showed Morgan some tape of Robinson and compared the two of them during his visit.
“That’s one of my favorite safeties. They showed (his film). He’s a dog,” Morgan said.
Morgan also got to spend some time around current FSU players this weekend, most notably Shyheim Brown and Kevin Knowles II.
“They made sure I was good. They felt like big brothers to me for real,” Morgan said.
This was the first of a few consecutive official visits Morgan has scheduled. He’s set to go to Cincinnati next weekend, Auburn June 12 through 14 and Miami from June 23 through 25. He said his goal is to commit either near the end of summer or early in his senior season.
Morgan said he doesn’t have a leader at this time. As for what he’ll be looking for when it comes to decision time?
“The relationship I have with the coaches and how the team operates,” Morgan said.
