Notre Dame Academy has tapped former assistant coach Brian Woeste to be its new head girls soccer coach.

He replaces Suli Kayed, who resigned after two seasons at the helm. He led the Pandas to the 2021 state championship with one of the most dominant teams in KHSAA history.

Woeste spent five seasons as an assistant under former Notre Dame head coach Dave Gronotte. During that time, the Pandas won four Ninth Region championships and finished as state runner-up in 2017.

“Brian comes to NDA with a proven background in coaching soccer and previous experience with our program,” said NDA Athletic Director Myanna Webster in a press release. “He served in various coaching roles at NDA throughout five soccer seasons including 2017-2019, when Woeste served as NDA’s Varsity Assistant Coach. He is ready to continue the rich tradition of success in girls’ high school soccer at NDA.”

According to the release, Woeste has 10 years of experience coaching club soccer in the Northern Kentucky region. He holds a US Soccer “D” license. In addition to promoting teamwork and hard work, Woeste recognizes the importance of having fun in athletics. Woeste understands the mission of NDA and will create an environment where players can enjoy the game, express their creativity and develop as highly skilled players with a passion for soccer in the tradition of Athletics at NDA.

Woeste graduated from Covington Catholic in 1994, and played soccer there and at Northern Kentucky University.

Woeste is the Midwest/MidAtlantic Director of Sales for Penumbra, Inc. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication in 1999 from NKU.

Woeste lives in Edgewood, Ky. with his wife and three children.

The Pandas graduated nine players from last year’s team that finished 17-4-2, won the 35th District championship and finished as Ninth Region runner-up. The top graduation loss is Ellie Greenwell, the team’s leading scorer who broke the all-time school assists record.
