Among all of the rumors that are coming out during this downtime for the Brooklyn Nets, it is possible that they could be still trying to be competitive in the Eastern Conference. In a recent article by Brian Lewis of the New York Post, he says that many around the league believe that the Nets are likely to use some of their draft capital in a trade to get a proven scorer or rebounder.
From Feb. 11, when the entire team post-trade deadline was active, to April 7, the last time that the post-trade deadline usual rotation played, Brooklyn went 12-14 as they fought to keep their playoff hopes amid chemistry issues. During that span, the Nets were 22nd in the NBA in offensive rating (113.7) and 27th in overall rebounding percentage (47.1%).
Both of those figures explain why Brooklyn is likely to go after someone who can help Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Spencer Dinwiddie score points or help Nic Claxton and Dorian Finney-Smith rebound the basketball. Lewis also mentioned that since the Nets have more wings than they can reasonably give playing time to, it is possible that they would include Finney-Smith or Royce O’Neale in a trade to round out the team better.
