The Hillsdale Academy boys golf team hosted their second event in a row when they brought in their SCAA opponents for a jamboree at the Hills of Baw Beese Golf Course on Monday, May 15. The Colts and the rest of their SCAA competitors, including Will Carleton Academy, played through the front nine of the picturesque Baw Beese Golf Course. It was the first loss of the season for the Colts, who ultimately took second while Lenawee Christian took first.
Lenawee Christian finished two strokes ahead of the Colts in final team scoring. The Cougars took first place with a 170 final score. The Colts took second with a score of 172. Colon took third with a 195, Climax-Scotts took fourth with a 200 and JC and Will Carleton tied for fifth with a score of 207. JC won the tiebreaker to finish ahead of Will Carleton.
Despite the second place finish, the Academy had two golfers finish in the top five. Junior Rykert Frisinger took third with a final score of 40. Ridley Fast took fourth with a final score of 41. Will Carleton Academy golfer Tyler Slade tied for fifth with a final score of 42. He earned the tiebreaker to finish ahead of the Burr Oak golfer he tied with. Kahle Welden of the Academy finished in eighth. Conner Welden tied for 10th. Two Cougars took the top two spots in the individual scores.
Match highlights for Frisinger included a birdie on a par-four hole two. He had four birdies over the final five holes of the night. Ridley Fast recorded five pars. He parred all but hole four on a run from holes two through seven. WCA sophomore Tyler Slade parred the first three holes of the match. He then had a par on a par-five hole eight.
Academy golfer Kahle Welden had three pars on the day. Conner Welden had one pair. Lincoln Knirk had two pars and a final score of 51. Grayson Young had a final score of 51. For Will Carleton Academy, sophomore Will Thielen had a final score of 52 and had one par. Benjamin Lutz had a final score of 56. Julian Harman had a final score of 57. Hunter Fitton had a final score of 72.
Both Hillsdale Academy and Will Carleton Academy will compete at the SCAA’s next jamboree. The event takes place on Thursday, May 18 at the Riverside Golf Club.
Jonesville takes third in Union City Big 8 Jamboree
The Jonesville Comet golf team headed to another Big 8 jamboree outing; this time hosted by Union City at the Turtle Creek Golf Course. Union City won the event with a final score of 171. Quincy took third with three golfers and a final score of 173. Jonesville took third with a final score of 176.
Comet junior Carter Baker tied for fifth with teammate Brennen Mains and Logan Mears of Union City. He was scored ahead of his teammate and Mears. Mains was scored third of the tied trio. Senior Carter Lucas finished the day tied for eighth place.
Junior Carter Baker finished the match with a final score of 42. The Comet had two pars and birdied a par-five hole six. Senior Brennen Mains had a final score of 42 as well. The Comet had a birdie on the first hole of the front nine. He then had three straight pars from hole six to eight. Senior Carter Lucas had three pars. Senior Braden Stiverson had a final score of 48 and had two pars. Junior Zachary Mains had four pars and a birdie on hole six, but the senior had a final score total of 49. Collin Laney had a final score of 50 and had a par on hole three.
The team will participate in the Hanover-Horton Invitational at the Arbor Hills Golf Club on Tuesday, May 16. Their conference championship will take place on Tuesday, May 23.
