The Citizen Times has released its 2021-22 all-WNC girls golf team.
A state runner-up from Hayesville, the best result in the region, leads the list as our girls golfer of the year. Tuscola’s star freshman, named conference player of the year, also made the list.

Golfer of the year
Madison Logan, Hayesville, senior
Logan ended her high school career in second place in the NCHSAA 1A/2A state championship with an overall two-day score of 156. She qualified by coming in first at the Western Regional with a score of 73, securing her third straight regional title. Her nine-hole season average was 38.8.
All-WNC girls golf team
Hunter Hill, Hendersonville, junior
Hill finished fourth in the 1A/2A West regionals and placed 17th in the state championship with a total score of 179. She also earned all-conference honors.
Maddie Hughes, Mountain Heritage, junior
With a score of 96 in regionals, Hughes tied for 19th, qualifying for the state championships. There, she tied for 23rd with a score of 183.
Katie Kubec, Hendersonville, senior
Kubec was the Mountain Foothills 7 player of the year. She tied for 11th in regionals and earned the 11th spot in the championship with a score of 172. She will play for Belmont Abbey in the fall.
Bekka Mull, North Buncombe, junior
Mull placed first in the 3A West regional with a score of 75 and tied for 11th in the state championship with a two-day score of 174.
Cecilee Silver, Erwin, senior
With a nine-hole season average of 37.5, Silver placed first in eight matches over the season, was in the top five in the Mountain Athletic Conference tournament, and top 15 in both the 3A West Regional conference and 3A state championship.
McKenna Williams, Tuscola, freshman
The conference player of the year, Williams helped her team secure the Mountain 7 title. She qualified for 3A regionals where she tied for fourth. She placed 39th in the state championship.

Coach of the Year: Bryan Hedden, Hayesville
First Team: Katie Kubec (Hendersonville), Bekka Mull (North Buncombe), Jala Stamey (Hayesville)
Second Team: Katy Conner (Roberson), Madison Logan (Hayesville), Ellie Pittman (Avery County), Anna Stiehler (Highlands)
