Anthony Edwards Talks Tough; Aims to Become the Face of the NBA

The 2020 NBA number one draft pick, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves has shared some of his lofty long-term goals.

The Ant-Man wants to be the face of the league in five years. He craves multiple-time MVP achievement, along with an NBA championship ring. Feats that no one in the Minnesota Timberwolves organization has ever accomplished outside of Kevin Garnett and his MVP season.

“I want to be an All-Star. I want to go deep in the playoffs, definitely past the first round. In five years, I want to be the face of the league and have a couple of MVPs by then and have a ring. In five years, I would expect to go to the Finals for sure,” Edwards says.

Critics Wax Lyrical Already
Questions sometimes arise if all that bravado is deserved. Arguably so, but his swagger is partly why one cannot take eyes off the Timberwolves’ 21-year-old wing.

He was a natural as “Kermit,” the antagonist to Juancho Hernangomez’s Bo Cruz in Netflix’s “Hustle.” It is why, after a sophomore campaign where he averaged 21.3 points a game and helped lead Minnesota back to the postseason, everyone wants to see what is next for Edwards.

The Ant-Man is one player, whose combination of speed, strength, and pure talent is helping to become a valuable asset for the Wolves Nation. And with the team adding complementary pieces to continue growing the pack, the initial goal of a deep postseason run for the team, which Edwards believes is in sight for the upcoming season, might just be possible.

Putting Gobert with Karl-Anthony Towns along the front line, with Edwards entering his third year and ready for a leap, there will be a lot of eyes on the Timberwolves this season.

Deal or No Deal?
He is not lacking in confidence and has shown potential to break grounds and hit heights, as his performance in the past two seasons has proven.

Cracking the All-Star starting five in the West might be herculean because the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Nikola Jokic are all but locked to get starting spots. But if Andrew Wiggins can do it, why can’t Edwards?

In a Minnesota sports world that currently includes the likes of Justin Jefferson and Kirill Kaprizov, Anthony Edwards might just become the most exciting young star living out his early 20’s in the Twin Cities. The future is bright Timberwolves fans.
