NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has been talking about many things with regard to how the game of basketball should be played. Being part of organizations like the San Antonio Spurs, Vaughn learned that sharing the basketball is one of those things that should be done no matter what as it makes scoring the ball easier since the defense has to cover all parts of the floor.
“I think overall, we have to have a consistent approach of still moving the basketball,” Vaughn said after the game. In Thursday’s 101-96 loss to the Sacramento Kings, sharing the basketball did not happen as much as it could have for the Nets. Brooklyn had 20 assists on 33 made field-goals (60.6%) which is right around their average assist percentage for the season (60.8%). However, there were a number of times where the Nets did not have good ball movement on the offensive end.
“Not getting stagnant, still trying to penetrate and kick for each other. I thought we did that early in the shot clock.” Ironically, Brooklyn’s lower-scoring quarters came in the first half, but that was the result of poor shooting as opposed to bad offense. Vaughn felt that there was too much one-on-one basketball in the second half. “The difference was, we were trying to manipulate some matchups which got us further in the shot clock, which is never a good thing. So, I think too many possessions led to that in the second half.” Brooklyn has a chance to show better offense on Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.
