The official Twitter accountt for the Hunter x Hunter Arena Battle mobile game has revealed that the game will end its services. As of now, the game has had three years of service under its belt.
The iOS and Android game first debuted in Japan in January 2020 under the distribution of DeNA. Originally, the game was free to play with available in-app purchases. From these, players were tasked to build decks of characters and acquire new additions to their roster through gacha machines. The game itself was a multiplayer online game that also had a single-player option.
The Hunter x Hunter Arena Battle game will end its service on March 31st at 3:00 pm JST. The in-game currency sales will be suspended by the end of February. A final login bonus promotion will be available until the game’s closure for those still playing. Purchases made prior to January 26th, 2023, will be eligible for a refund. Finally, the game’s official website will be shut down by May 31st, 2023.
Hunter x Hunter Arena Battle Mobile: A Long Story Behind It
Yoshihiro Togashi launched the Hunter x Hunter manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998. Since the manga then inspired two anime series, two anime films, and several original video titles. The manga’s second anime adaptation premiered in 2011 and has a total of 148 episodes. Currently, the story is described as follows;
The story is focused on a young boy named Gon Freecss who discovers that his father, who left him at a young age, is actually a world-renowned Hunter. Gon departs on a journey to become a Hunter (a licensed professional who specializes in the pursuit of rare finds) and eventually finds his father. Along the way, Gon meets various other Hunters and encounters the paranormal.
Most recently, Togashi announced that the manga will be going back on hiatus due to his health. The chapters for the manga are now being released in a non-weekly format to prioritize Togashi’s health.
