The high school boys and girls district soccer tournaments started last week and continue this week with district semifinals and finals.
The boys teams from North Marion, Lake Weir and Belleview all earned bye weeks as top three seeds. Surprisingly, Lake Weir and North Marion matched up in the second round.
Despite being undefeated, Forest boys don’t have home-field advantage in the championship round. Three boys teams were eliminated in the first round.
Let’s take a closer look into how the early rounds of those district tournaments have gone for each team.
Forest heads to the championship game
The Wildcat boys are suiting up for the district tournament championship game against Gainesville on Wednesday. They beat South Lake 2-0 in overtime to win Thursday’s first-round matchup. In round 2, Forest beat Buchholz to complete the season sweep with a 1-0 shutout.
Gainesville, ranked fifth in the state, is the highest ranked team Forest has faced this season. Adding more pressure to the upcoming championship game – both teams are undefeated.
West Port season is over
The Wolf Pack season ended on the road. Apopka defeated West Port 4-1 in the first round of the district tournament. West Port’s season ends at 11-6-2.
Vanguard falls at districts
The Knights fell to Leesburg 5-4 in a shootout. Vanguard ends its season 4-10-3.
North Marion meets Lake Weir on Monday
The Colts earned a bye week and will face Lake Weir in the second round at home on Monday.
Lake Weir meets North Marion on Monday
The Hurricanes earned a bye week and will play at North Marion in the second round on Monday.
Trinity Catholic gets ripped to the end of the season
The Celtics ended their season on the wrong end of an 8-0 shutout by Interlachen. Trinity Catholic finished the season 10-4-3.
Dunnellon loses to Crystal River to finish winless
The Pirates took down the Tigers 8-0, leaving Dunnellon with a final record of 0-15.
Belleview ready to face Leesburg
Belleview is fresh off a bye week and an extra three days to scout Leesburg. They’ll start their semi-final matchup on Tuesday night.
